Does it Mata whether Cesc or Nasri go this summer?

By Avenell Dave

There is nothing more tedious than the summer break and all the speculation about players.

It feels like it didn't used to be this way - but since Arsene Wenger started discovering rough diamonds and turning them into superstars, we have ahd to endure speculation season after season.

And I have to say, Barca have been at the heart of it.

Yes, Nic Anelka moaned about leaving but then there was Marc Overmars, Manu Petit, Theirry Henry and now Cesc Fabregas and it's tiresome.

I don't want to see us become the bullies but neither can I stomach the fact that we're getting pushed around by a team that may play the classiest football but indisputably have the most classless players and board when it comes to tapping up our captain.

I'm beyond fed up with it and while I also appreciate why Arsenal remain tight-lipped about it all, with every day you get the feeling that we're being pushed into a tighter corner with no chance of getting market value for a player whose time at Arsenal is surely up.

With his record of success for Spain and his place in the top five midfielders in the world, there is no way Cesc is worth less than £45m and the fact that we signed him from Barca makes no odds.

Why did he leave in the first place? Why does he think he'll get many games with Xavi and Iniesta ahead of him?

Barca should put up or shut up but that's simply not their way. Just as they roll around crying like babies, so their board play a dirty slimy game to unsettle our captain.

I want to see Cesc gone now, just to get this turgid episode over with. He was tired and injured for much of last season and there's got to be a question mark about his hamstrings in the long term.

There is talk of new deald being offered to Samir Nasri as well and I just can't understand it.

Nasri is a fine player on his day and had a good first half of the season, but he has yet to do it for a full campaign and I'm convinced that there are more impactful players out there, even if we do sell him to M*nure for £20m. Sounds like good business to me.

Will we sign Mata or Alvarez? Who knows. We need a big signing to give the team a lift, whatever happens and if both cesc and Nasri go, we need three, plus the other squad strengthening that has been needed for the past 18 months.

I can only imagine how busy Ivan Gazidis and Arsene Wenger are right now, not helped by Nina Bracewell-Smith's comments to @DarrenArsenal1 on Twitter last night that the entire board should go apart from David Miles.

Right now, what we need more than ever is calm heads, clinical negotiations and for everyone to pull together. There are enough snipers from outside our club for us to lament the fact that we haven't paid three or four times the value for Phil Jones or Jordan Henderson.

Incidentally, the new away kit is officially launched today - reminds me a bit of Wycombe Wanderers and I have always preferred yellow to blue as the away colours but this isn't bad at all and I do love the fact that the club have brought back the motto: ‘Victoria Concordia Crescit’, (‘Victory Through Harmony’).
