So it finally looks as if Arsene Wenger will dust off the Arsenal cheque book this month to bring in what he refers to as an "emergency signing" to bolster our options in central defence.
The use of the word emergency makes me think that Wenger will be looking for a short term solution to our defensive shortcomings, but I'm hoping I'm wrong in that assumption, as surely signing someone who is world class and who can contribute to the club in the long term is a better idea.
There have been one or two suggestions that Arsenal could look to fill the void caused by the injuries to Thomas Vermaelen and Sebastien Squillaci by promoting from within, with the names of reserve skipper Ignasi Miquel and Kyle Bartley (currently on loan at Sheffield United) being mentioned in dispatches.
Personally I'm hoping we go for someone with a little bit more experience, but I'm not discounting those youngsters, so they'll be in this poll, alongside some more recognisable names.
Without going into long and laborious details, the defenders Arsenal are most linked with include Bolton's Gary Cahill, Phil Jagielka of Everton, Fulham's Brede Hangeland, Werder Bremen stopper Per Mertesacker and Real Madrid's Raul Albiol.
So those, fellow Addicts are your candidates in today's poll, with an additional 'someone else' choice if you can think of a more suitable signing to shore up our defence.
