Emmanuel Frimpong - arguaby our most impessive player in pre-season - has joined the list of crocks on the Arsenal sidelines after rupturing his cruciate ligaments in training yesterday.
Already ruled out for up to nine months, it's a devastating setback for the 18-year-old whose performances saw him on the fringe of first team action and I, for one, was looking forward to his emergence as competition for Alex Song.
I can think of no higher accolade for the teenager than Arsene Wenger's reaction on hearing the news: "That is a massive blow," says Le Boss. "I rate him highly and I still have a lot of faith in him but we will miss him for six to nine months."
A cruciate ligament injury used to mean the end of a career. Thankfully these days that isn't the case, but Frimpong's injury is just as debilitating for the teenager as Aaron Ramsey's leg break. Not as violent or headline grabbing perhaps, but it goes without saying that, on behalf of all Arsenal Addicts, we send our best wishes to Emmanuel and wish him a speedy recovery.
