Arsenal easily swept aside Celtic last night, beating the Scottish Premier League side 5-1 on aggregate to secure a place in this afternoon's draw for the Champions League group stage.
Of course, there had to be a moment of controversy and it came through the nimble feet of Eduardo winning us a dodgy penalty.
It's rubbish when they are awarded against you, so I'm not about to condone any kind of diving here, but the one thing that no pundit chose to point out last night is that Dudu did not claim for a penalty. Sure he went to ground rather theatrically, but he didn't ask for the pen, so it's a refereeing error, pure and simple.
However, second half strikes by Emmanuel Eboue and Andrey Arshavin put the tie well beyond Celtic's reach and only the most blinkered of the Hoops' fans could possibly argue that the Arsenal were not the better team, so in the end it was a pretty straightforward qualification for our 12th Champions League campaign in a row under Arsene Wenger.
Without Cesc Fabregas pulling the trigger there was a bit of a drought of meaningful passes from the midfield forward last night, but he'll hopefully be fit in time for the trip to Man United this Saturday and in the meantime, the middle four coped well defensively, if not offensively.
But the question I have for you, my fellow Addicts, is who was our most valuable player last night?
I'm guessing that Nicklas Bendtner won't win too many votes, but the likes of Denilson, Eduardo, Eboue and Alex Song played well, while Thomas Vermaelen turned in yet another sterling performance and his reaction at the last gasp Celtic consolation was great to see, as he was clearly pissed off that we didn't keep a clean sheet.
