Call me a cynic, but I have a feeling that after all the criticism of English clubs getting through en masse to the Champions League quarter finals last week, I have a feeling the draw may mean English clubs have to face each other so we don’t have an all-England final again.
Was there ever such criticism or complaint when AC Milan met Juventus? I can’t remember any, for sure.
The Scousers will see it as their only chance of silverware; United seem to think they deserve to win it again just because the media love them and want to see them do well; and the Ch*vs are bang on form since Guus Hiddink arrived.
Of the overseas sides, Bayern thumped Sporting Lisbon by a record 12-1 aggregate score and we’ve not had a great deal of fortune against German clubs in the past; Barcelona have oodles of talent in Titi, Lionel Messi and Samuel Eto’o although their domestic form is waning; and we played Porto in the Group stages so that may mean we’re not allowed to play them in the quarters...I don’t know for sure.
Let’s be honest though, at this stage, any game is going to be difficult.
I have a fear that we’re going to face the Ch*vs, which would mean facing them four times now before the season is over. They knocked us out a few years ago and I’m not sure if our squad will cope, despite the returning players.
Personally, I’d like us to face Liverpool, and make amends for our scandalous defeat at Anfield last season, when Kolo Toure’s dubious foul gifted them a winner late on. Stop Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres and they have nothing else to offer.
But what do you think? Who would you like Arsenal to face?
