Arshavin needs to reach into his own pocket for Arsenal deal to happen

The latest news out of Emirates Stadium today is that Arsenal have agreed a deal with Zenit St Petersburg for the services of Andrei Arshavin.

However the sticking point in the long-protracted transfer appears to be Zenit's insistence that Arshavin repays the club what is understood to be part of a loyalty bonus amounting to about £2 million from his own pocket.

Given the Russian midfielder's eagerness to fly to London to make sure he was in a position to undergo a medical at Arsenal, I would imagine that he can cuty a deal with his prospective new employers to cover that fee.

If so, it would appear that Andrei is close to becoming the latest recruit to Arsene Wenger's squad.

There's still an hour and 45 minutes for that situation to change though, so I'll keep you posted on any further developments.
