Play Fantasy Arsene Wenger - Can the kids do us proud in Greece?

By Avenell Dave

Are we on a hiding to nothing tonight in Greece?

Regardless of their ability or not, if we’d had to win at Olympiakos, I would have been concerned. Greece is not an easy place to go and the fans can get a bit lively.

So it will be something of a baptism for many of the youngsters who will end up playing for the pride of the club.

The last thing we want is to get hammered again – while an improbably win would restore some of the confidence that has been lost in recent weeks.

The bad news, as we all know now, is that we lost another three players on Saturday and I don’t expect any of them to be risked with a big game against Liverpool coming up.

I suspect Alex Song will come back into the side and I'm delighted to see us really look to the future and promote Kyle Bartley.

As I said on Monday, if Thomas Vermaelen or William Gallas gets crocked, we have no serious cover and with Phil Senderos wanting to leave in January, why not maximise his value by keeping him clear for European competition. Someone in the Europa League may pay decent 6-month cash for him.

With all three left backs crocked, it will be interesting to see how Tom Cruise does there. With a name like that and Top Gun headlines, he's destined for Arsenal greatness!

I suspect midfield will see Aaron Ramsey and Fran Merida along with Alex Song but I think it's in attack where we're really struggling to field quality.

Carlos Vela needs to show us that his sparkle in Spain and for Mexico can be replicated in an Arsenal shirt against someone other than Sheffield United and it would be nice to see Theo play a match without getting injured.

It could be a long night in Greece, but thank heavens the performance means more than the result.
