Should Big Sol return to Arsenal?

By Avenell Dave

I was really surprised today to see the comments by Arsene Wenger regarding Sol Campbell.

London Colney seems to be a port of call for all sorts of footballers looking to keep fit - David Beckham trained there a while back and now Sol is keeping fit.

Having left Notts County after one game, he was linked with M*nure earlier this week and the noises coming from Wenger today suggest he will be joining us in January.

Wenger rarely gives any credence to speculation unless there is some truth in it and the key point for me was that he said how important it is to have four centre backs.

It's an open secret that Phil Senderos will leave in January - his World Cup place is in jeopardy and he was close to joining Everton in the summer.

If he leaves, we have a gap and Wenger needs someone of stature and experience who isn't cup-tied for Europe but won't stand in the way of Kyle Bartley, who could be the next long term central defensive mainstay.

It will be interesting to see what happens but given his form last season, I'd prefer Sol to Mikael Silvestre when the opportunity arises to give Wiliam Gallas or Thomas Vermaelen a break - and if they are not rested at some stage, they're going to get injured.

If he's not asking for the sort of wages he commanded when at his peak, can we afford NOT to sign Sol, given the parlous financial situation?
