Last night I found myself bitterly disappointed with our result. Was I the only one?
I was moaning about the misplaced passes, the over hit passes. The lack of killer instinct and goals. The tendency to switch off. The sad bag of shite player Sylvestre has become. Questioning whether 4-3-3 works without RVP.
Wondering why Arshavin has such a fat bottom and why he has seemed to drift in and out of the last 6 games he has played for us.
On the train home from the match I spoke to my friend who is a scouser who had just seen his team dumped out the Champions League coupled with a shocking run in the league.
He said that us Gooners were spoilt and should remember that every match won’t be champagne footy. He says he loves watching us but that he always feels we are the little kids in the playground ... the David to Goliath with the slingshot but nothing to put in it.
I agree with him. We have wonderful flair players but are they hard enough to cope with bad weather away days after international breaks (Sunderland), or a physical and technical side like Chelsea this Sunday.
Can we expect to not concede from a set piece when there won’t be one player bar Almunia in the side over 6ft. Can we handle Drogba and Anelka?
Questions questions ... and things can change very quickly in footy. If we beat Chelsea then we’ll be title contenders.
I think we are still lacking quality cover in the areas of the park that matter the most. DM and CB and I think this is where we may fall short. Although you never know, we may always score more than we concede which will paper over the defensive deficiencies.
Three things that excite me:
1. Arshavin playing like he really cares about the Arsenal
2. Someone to replace RVP’s goals
3. Surprising people this season
Three things that worry me:
1. Losing Song to the ACN – our most important player so far this season
2. Lack of CB cover
3. Our lack of killer instinct
All in all though, we ain’t doing that bad! Champs League knockout stage for 10th consecutive year. 3rd in Prem only behind Manure with one game in hand and a far superior goal difference.
Compare that to where a lot of us thought we’d be at the beginning of the season!
We’re in Dreamland and it can always be worse.
You could be a Liverpool fan knowing you are only 3 injuries away (Gerrard, Torres, Carragher) from having a really shocking team.
Sometimes I have a dream that Arsene Wenger goes out and buys a hard as a coffin nail 6ft + CB and a DM who sticks to you like glu and tops it off with a shite hot out and out striker ... just in case we need them as Chelsea will surely do in Jan just in case they need them.
My mate is also convinced Sylvestre is a spy for Ferguson.
