Arsenal travel to Goodison this evening knowing that they must get a win to keep their exceedingly slim title hopes alive, while maintaining some pressure on Aston Villa who have skipped to a six point lead over the Gunners.
A win over Everton is also a must given that David Moyes’ side are just five points behind Arsenal in the league and have been steadily strengthening their resolve this season, compared to our own see-saw inconsistent form.
Back in the fold for tonight’s game are William Gallas and Gael Clichy with Le Gaffer, like the rest of us, hoping that his back four can help Manuel Almunia keep a clean sheet on the road in Liverpool.
The return of Gallas gives Wenger options in defence and I’m hoping that he pairs Willie alongside Johan Djourou, while Clichy and Bacary Sagna take their places as full backs.
Quite where that would leave stand-in captain Kolo Toure as the transfer window climax nears is worrying, but there’s still a belief among many Gooners that Toure should be switched to the defensive midfield role. I’m not sure I agree with that, as I think Emmanuel Eboue might be a better choice for that role, even though I’m guessing that the majority of you lot won’t agree with my opinion on that issue. But that debate is for another day...
Midfield I reckon will be Eboue, Denilson, Diaby and Nasri, while perhaps Robin van Persie will be asked to play a bit deeper in a midfield/supporting striker position with Emmnanuel Adebayor playing on his own up front, where we all know he’s capable of holding up the ball, as well as breaking away to trouble the last line of defence.
As I said, tonight is a must win and Le Boss will be choosing the strongest line up available to counter Everton’s strong midfield.
Share your thoughts on who our starting line-up should be and if you want to compare it with my choice, here it is:
Sagna Gallas Djourou Clichy
Eboue Denilson Diaby Nasri
