Is Gokhan Inler the final piece in Wenger's jigsaw for this season?

Speculation is growing that highly rated Swiss midfielder Gokhan Inler could be about to sign a deal to bring him to Emirates Stadium in time for the new season.

The 24-year-old was arguably Switzerland's best player during Euro 2008, alerting a number of European heavyweights to have talks with his agent Dino Lamberti.

As a defensive midfielder, Inler could be a direct replacement for Flamini and given his age and his experience both as an international and now with a season worth of Serie A action at Udinese, he fits Wenger's wish list of being young enough to integrate into his long-term plan for the Gunners, while adding a bit of backbone to the current squad.

The fact that he only joined Udinese last year is a potential stumbling block for any move, but reports coming out of Switzerland suggest that Inler has a £5 million buy-out clause in his contract and Wenger is supposedly in talks to sign Gokhan on a four-year deal.

But what do you reckon to Inler? Did he impress you during Euro 2008? Could he be the man to fill Mathieu Flamini's boots? Share your comments here
