Rosicky's latest setback underlines need for width in January

Arsene Wenger has today confirmed that Tomas Rosicky will not return to action until March at the earliest.

Little Mozart has been plagued by hamstring problems for a year now and the news that he will miss the best part of this season causes grave concern for Gooners.

Weger said today: "He's doing rehab at the moment. He's back here on December 17 and then hopefully we can start to work with him. But it's a long-term prospect - maybe March at the earliest.”

There's no doubt that on his day, Rosicky can turn matches, create openings and score goals, but we have yet to see him complete a full season without injury and, despite his experience and talent, perhaps it is unwise to rely on him anymore...

With Manu Eboue, Denilson, Aaron Ramsey and Abou Diaby all forced to play in wide midfield roles at times this season, it seems as if a wide man should be added to Wenger's wishlist in January.

I fully believe that the arrival of Ivan Gazidis as Chief Executive is going to make a positive difference to our transfer activities - with a winger now a priority.

We cannot rely on Theo Walcott and Samir Nasri in isolation and regardless of the talent of Jack Wilshere, he is to young to expect to hold down a permanent place for a year or two.

With the frenetic pace of the the Premiership causing injuries to impact players such as Nasri and Walcott, Wenger could do with one more talented player capable of turning defenders and matches.

That said, I'm not sure who comes to mind - Stewart Downing is rubbish (and off to Sp*rs) and even the usually dynamic Dutch wingers that are available are now moving fo huge restrictive fees.

Given that Wenger probably wouldn't spend more than £5m and the player would have to be fast and under 26, who would you like to join us as a winger in January?
