It looks as if the Arsenal side that will take on Burnley tonight in the Carling Cup will have 11 changes to the team that defeated Chelsea at the weekend.
Arsene Wenger has named his 18-man squad for the trip up north this evening and it seems likely that we’ll get to see a bit more of both Jack Wilshere and Carlos Vela as the young Guns aim for their third semi final in as many years.
It also appears that Mikael Silvestre will start as Le Gaffer says he will use the players who were on the bench at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, while he may also give a chance to a couple of younger players who have yet to appear for the first team...
The full squad travelling to Lancashire is: Carlos Vela, Aaron Ramsey, Mikael Silvestre, Jack Wilshere, Lukasz Fabianski, Vito Mannone, Nicklas Bendtner, Amaury Bischof, Francis Coquelin, Kieran Gibbs, Gavin Hoyte, Henri Lansbury, Fran Merida, Mark Randall, Paul Rodgers, Jay Simpson, Rene Steer and Emmanuel Frimpong.
I reckon our back four will be Hoyte, Frimpong, Silvestre and Gibbs, but with Rodgers and Steer also named, that could be tweaked a little.
Midfield will hopefully consist of Randall, Wilshere, Ramsey and Merida, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see either Amaury Bischoff or Francis Coquelin in the mix, as both have been impressive for the reserves this season.
And up front I reckon Le Boss has to opt for Vela and Bendtner, although that’s a little harsh on Jay Simpson, who performed so well against Wigan in the last round.
