It’s almost a case of last XI standing tomorrow for one of the biggest domestic matches of the season.
My feeling is that if we sit back and invite M*nure on to us, we will be taken apart, our defence not collectively secure enough to cope.
This is the time to be brave yet not reckless - so let's stifle them in midfeld and t the same time give them problems to think about.
Will Fawlty Manuel Almunia return in place of Lukasz Fabianski? Probably, although with the exception of failing to come for a ball he could easily have reached when Fenerbahce counter-attacked, the Polish goalkeeper didn’t do much wrong on Wednesday. This is his time to prove he can be a long term Number One....
The defence provides some interesting conundrums – Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy with Johann Djourou and Kolo Toure at the back would be my choice. I fear that William Gallas will return at the expense of Djourou, which, given the continuing impressive form of our Swiss centre-back, would be a shocker.
I’m not convinced Mikael Silvestre will be risked if he has, as Wenger put it yesterday, an open wound where his nose was broken.
Of course, if Gallas or Silvestre ARE fit, perhaps Toure will start on the right of midfield to provide some cover to stifle Cristiano Ronaldo.
Assuming they are all fit, play Alex Song deep alongside Cesc Fabregas with Abou Diaby given a free role to create the openings he has show he is capable of doing. Aaron Ramsey gave a great account of himself on Wednesday as well and may provide a more battling alternative. Is he ready for such a huge game?
I’d like to see Samir Nasri start on the right, where I think he is far more effective, with Carlos Vela returning to the left of midfield, a position he occupied with aplomb for Osasuna last season.
After the shocking tackle on Manu Adebayor, the crazy assault by RvP on Thomas Sorensen and Eduardo’s long term injury, we’re left with very little in the way of striking options.
Nic Bendtner didn’t do himself any favours on Wednesday, his movement and touch not up to the standards he has shown on occasion, but he is our only option at centre-forward.
I’d be inclined to bring on Theo Walcott to play off Bendtner, assuming he is fit, to test the United defence with his pace and trickery – but that all depends on his fitness, of course.
Sagna – Djourou – Toure – Clichy
Nasri – Cesc – Vela
So what do you think, fellow Addicts? Who would you choose is you were in charge of the Gunners tomorrow?
