Arsenal’s young Guns return to action in the Carling Cup this evening when they host Premier League rivals Wigan at Emirates Stadium.
Arsene Wenger has already gone on the record as saying that the team will consist of 90% of the lads who trounced Sheffield United 6-0 in the last round of the competition, but I can’t see Wigan being the pushovers that the Blades were.
Le Gaffer has named an 18-strong squad for the cup tie, with Nicklas Bendtner and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas losing their places from the Sheffield game, while Rui Fonte and Amaury Bischoff are drafted in.
I wouldn’t be too surprised to see summer signing Bischoff starting the game, as his form in the reserves has been impressive, while with Bendtner out of the picture, I reckon Le Boss will opt for Carlos Vela and Jay Simpson as the Gunners’ forward line...
These Carling Cup games are rapidly turning out to firm favourites of us Gooners, as they give us a glimpse of who we might see breaking into the first team in the next year or so and I for one can’t wait for kick-off tonight.
Be sure to share your ideas on who out starting line up should be, but for me, it should look like this:
Hoyte Song Djourou Gibbs
Bischoff Merida Ramsey Wilshere
And for those of you who don’t know the full squad, that would leave the subs as: Vito Mannone, Francis Coquelin, Rui Fonte, Henri Lansbury, Abu Ogogo, Mark Randall and Emmanuel Frimpong.
