Arsene Wenger has endeared himself to us Gooners brilliantly throughout his stay at Arsenal through some of his comments about Tottenham Hopeless.
So here, to help get us all in the mood for tonight's North London derby, are five of his top observations about his dealings with the little club at the wrong end of seven Sisters Road.
“I tried to watch the Spurs match on television in my hotel yesterday, but I fell asleep.”
Made on 23rd September 1996, on his first full day as Arsenal’s new manager.
“I am aware of the rivalry.”
Speaking on in November 1996, prior to his first North London derby.
“I went to Barcelona with Monaco and there were 120,000 people there. Yet it was almost quiet compared with our game against Spurs at Highbury.”
Wenger was already loving the rivalry when he made this observation just five months into his rein on Valentine’s Day 1997.
“It must have been good for the fans to see us repeat what happened in 1971 when we also won the title at Tottenham.”
Showing that he was aware of the club’s history when we won the league at Light Weight Lane in April 2004.
“Derby games are either completely locked or completely crazy. Today we got the crazy version.”
Arsene was as thrilled as the rest of us after his team won 5-4 away in November 2004. Let’s hope we don’t give the Spuds as many chances to score tonight.
